Here we are, the last day. After 10 days in Ireland, tomorrow morning we begin the long journey back to the U.S.
For our last day, we wanted to relax more than anything. As it would turn out, we relaxed more than expected. We all slept in, then went for breakfast. Because we were slow-moving, we actually missed the breakfast menu and had lunch instead.
After our meal, we went and got cash to take a boat tour of the local coast. We’ve been looking forward to this tour because we haven’t seen any of Ireland’s elusive dolphins. Unfortunately, the first tour we tried to schedule didn’t have openings. The second wasn’t open this time of year even though their website didn’t say this. And the third tour company closed for the season the day before! Obviously, we weren’t meant to go be on a boat today.
Ireland has been very card friendly so we’ve just used our cards everywhere, and we had actually gotten cash specifically to pay for the boat tour because it said it was cash only. Since we had some cash to burn now, we had to find something to do with it. This ended up being pretty easy since we found a Chinese restaurant to get takeaway (what we could usually call to-go).
We took the time that we would have spent on the boat tour to get coffee and enjoy the rolling Atlantic waves rushing onto the beach.
After, we took the train back to Dalkey, got supper, and walked back to the hotel. Here, we enjoyed the Dungeon Bar, which is fittingly located on the lowest level of the castle. We also spent some time in the hot tub to soothe our tired muscles after all our walking. As I write this, we’re back in our rooms trying to figure out how to fit everything back in our suitcases… wish us luck!
Thanks for tagging along virtually! Selfishly, the daily posts have been for us to see the memories pop up year after year. That said, it’s been fun to see everyone’s comments and to share the journey with you all too. If you have the opportunity to visit Ireland, I definitely recommend the Emerald Isles! I’m sad as I think about going back to “reality” tomorrow because there are so many things I’ll miss about Ireland. But I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity to see more of the world.
